An anniversary special is coming to Netflix later this year, celebrating the brands 29th anniversary, on National Power Rangers Day, August 28th 2022.
‘Power Rangers Super Megaforce: Gosei’s Treasure’ sees the return of Troy, Noah, Jake, Gia, Emma and Orion as they stop a new force of evil from capturing Gosei’s ultimate hidden treasure – the Gosei Galleon.
Ranger fans will be excited to know that the hour long special, directed by the also-returning Jonathan Tzachor, will mirror the original Super Megaforce season and feature the return of some former Ranger alumni. As of now, we don’t know who is returning, other than to expect to see ‘some familiar faces’.
In a twist, we can also confirm that the Super Megaforce team will be getting even more New Powers, from previously unadapted seasons of Super Sentai. The likes of Lupinranger, Patoranger, Kiramager, Zyuohger, ToQger and Kyuranger are present in the Japanese movie that this is being adapted from, so it’s likely one of these designs may finally make it into the Ranger-verse!
Longtime viewers will know that Power Rangers is based on Super Sentai in Japan, with Super Megaforce being an adaptation of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, and the upcoming special being an adaptation of Kaizoku Sentai: Ten Gokaiger – a 10th anniversary special of said series.
Formerly on Nick, Power Rangers made its official transition to a Netflix original earlier this year, after the vast majority of previous seasons were removed from the streaming giant.
Outside of this special, Power Rangers Dino Fury had its 2nd season premiere on Netflix in the US and other regions with the first 11 episodes releasing on March 3rd, and the majority of fans praising this first batch of new content.
On the flip to side to that, there is a vocal minority who felt that the move to Netflix would have greater impact on the show, saying it felt the same to the seasons on Nick. In fact, the show was made before the Netflix deal became apparent, so for Dino Fury, fans shouldn’t expect major changes to the production, budget, style or tone.
Look out for ‘Gosei’s Treasure’, streaming this August, only on Netflix.
