At Power Morphicon 2018, Hasbro showcased their first Power Rangers product in a big way – a collector-focused highly-articulated action figure line titled “Lightning Collection“. The first figure shown to the public – the iconic Mighty Morphin White Ranger!
The packaging featured a change from the atypical packaging from Hasbro’s other collector-focused action figure lines. Artwork by the incredibly talented Tom Whalen adjourned the side and a splash image of the figure in an iconic pose was on the back of the box. Little did fans know, this setup would not change for many years.
- Re-Released in Wave 7
- Spectrum Series Packaging Exclusive to Target
The Lightning Collection White Ranger features over 20 points of articulation, swappable hands, a Tommy civilian head, Saba, and an effects piece to add to your posing. The armor is soft plastic allowing for increased posability. With the right lighting, talented photographers can make this figure look like it jumped straight off the screen.
Handling this figure for the first time was an experience I won’t forget. The change of “figure-types” from Bandai to Hasbro was apparent from the second I held the figure and began posing. Gone were abnormal muscles and here to stay were fabric folds and realistic proportions. Everything about this figure pops and it was an easy “must-buy” item. This figure started the hype for the Lightning Collection and years later it is still going strong! –TokuChris
