Guest artist issue! Thony Silas (Venom) and Kyle Higgins, the team behind Batman Beyond 2.0, join forces again for a special one-issue story focusing on the Power Ranger that Rita Repulsa approached before finding Tommy – Zack!

SYNOPSIS

It’s flashback time!  We travel back to right before the emergence of the Green Ranger as the Power Rangers defend yet another city from yet another monster attack from Rita Repulsa.  But this time she focuses on Zack Taylor, the Black Ranger, as his heroics in the battle are ignored as adulation and praise is thrown at the Red Ranger.  She ambushes Zack and teleports him to her palace where she and Goldar attempt to sell him on the notion that Zordon was the start of everything and that she only wants to make the Earth a better place.  She shows him a vision – a future – where Zack Taylor is a hero, donning a green costume with gold armor.  Zack entertains the idea but attempts to trick Rita by stealing the Dragon Power Coin, only to be thwarted in his attempt.  He returns and informs Zordon of what happened who asks him not to speak of the matter to the others.  As Rita then focuses on Tommy, a voice tells her of the future – where Tommy will abandon her and join the Power Rangers.  And when she is truly ready to conquer that she will hear from this voice again.  (For reference, the speech bubble is the same as the mysterious Black zord that appeared at the end of the previous issue)

STAFF REVIEW

This is the series’ first foray in to creating some new mythology around the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers lore.  To think that Zack Taylor was actually the first choice to be the Green Ranger.  We also learn a bit more about the mysterious Black zord seen in the previous issue, as it is able to predict the future.  A great pick-up issue, especially for Black Ranger fans.
