Special standalone issue featuring guest artist Jon Lam! As someone who tends to shy away from conflict and confrontation, Billy feels like the least likely candidate to protect Earth. When he first receives his Power Coin, he’s constantly afraid of not being prepared, and it’ll take a carefully strategized battle and the support of his friends to feel like a true member of the team.
SYNOPSIS
A flashback story to pre-current stories of Billy struggling with what it means to be a hero. After struggling to get the final shot in at a monster, Billy becomes consumed with trying to define his techniques and overthinks what it means to be a hero. It takes a pep-talk from Zack to let him realize that real-life has no formula, no guidebooks to it – you just act and react. Billy then begins to realize that he doesn’t have to be the strongest, make the important shots in a battle, or have the fanciest moves – he is part of a team that, when they work together, become heroes.
STAFF REVIEW
A really nice story – especially discussing the ideology that many “nerdy” kids have about dreaming that they could be a superhero. What kid – or heck even adults – haven’t daydreamed at one point what it would be like to be a superhero in their own story? This is a refreshing break from the crazy story we’re following but the wait is killing us – next issue we’re back at it and we cannot wait! This truly is a special story though and we highly recommend it.
