The villainous Lord Drakkon wields the power of Saba against the Green Ranger as the Power Rangers fight for the survival of two worlds!
SYNOPSIS
Lord Drakkon vs Tommy. Rita Repulsa vs the Power Rangers. The fate of two worlds in the balance and the payoff hits every button it needs to. In Lord Drakkon’s universe, Billy uses his alter-world’s power coin to disable Lord Drakkon, and his sentry’s, powers rendering them as normal civilians. It is now Tommy vs Tommy – with the evil version clamoring about the downfall of having friends and trusting them, while the good version explains that when the darkness creeps in its the faith he has in his friends, and the trust they have in him, that keeps him going and makes him stronger.
In the normal world, Trini uses Billy’s Power Coin that Rita has to summon the Black Dragon armor, tapping in to the same energy that Lord Drakkon did with the Black Dragon in the first place. Doing so released the hold over the Power Rangers’ powers, and enabled the Megazord to be formed, letting them easily defeat the clone Goldars.
Finally – the Power Rangers teleport to Lord Drakkon’s world to save their friends and help take down the remainder of the invading Ranger sentries. The evil Tommy is defeated and chooses to fall in to a crevice rather than surrender. Our heroes are teleported back to the normal world with Saba, who now acts as an anchor to Zordon’s time displaced form, and begin to rebuild the Command Center and a new stasis tube for Zordon.
But we also see that Lord Drakkon has teleported back to the normal world as well and is immediately picked up by some shady looking military agents. And thus concludes the Lord Drakkon story arch started in Issue 0.
STAFF REVIEW
Nearly a year and a half has been spent on building this story and this payoff issue felt excellent. The artwork was on point and the plot lines felt resolved appropriately. The character of Lord Drakkon is a surprisingly refreshing take on “evil mirror world” figures as this isn’t a mirror world – just a “What If” type of world – but it takes Power Rangers and puts on that real-world darker spin that every adult fan has thought about for years. While some may dislike the continued use of Tommy in Power Rangers media he is the most engaging, exciting, and interesting character that the brand has ever produced. The story takes a fragile Tommy, fresh off mind control and unsure of everything, and immediately throws at him a “Hey, this is what happened if you acted on your impulses instead of trusting your friends”. Where will the story go next and what is in store for Lord Drakkon in the future? We don’t know – but rest assured we’re sticking around for the ride!
