This is it. The team up between every Ranger left standing against the unrivaled power of Drakkon, while a covert team led by Grace embarks on what might be their last mission ever.
SYNOPSIS
We begin with the confrontation between Zordon, Doggie Cruger, and Ninjor with Rita Repulsa and her minions. At first she is reluctant to assist them in their quest to save reality – as she puts it, what does she care if a Power Ranger destroys reality and all the other Power Rangers. It isn’t until it is made personal when she discovers that Lord Drakkon killed the Rita Repulsa of his world and used her as a pawn in his quest.
Lord Drakkon, in the meanwhile, is using melted down ninja steel taken from the Power Rangers Ninja Steel to reforge Saba. Finster-5 alerts him that a mass of Power Rangers are preparing to invade and he welcomes the fight and states it is time to enact the final part of their plan.
As the Power Rangers prepare their morphers and say hello to each other, Jason gives a speech to the crowd of Power Rangers and Megazords standing outside the Command Center. He rallies the troops and proceeds to give Kimberly the Dragon Shield, giving us the Armored Pink Ranger (leaving only poor Trini/Yellow Ranger as being the only Power Ranger of the original six left to have not had the Dragon Shield in any incarnation … as Billy, the Blue Ranger, received it in toy form in the infamous MMPR 2.0 toy line). A group of Power Rangers leave on Promethea to free the prisoners and the other group travels to destroy the tower that gives power to the Sentries.
And the battle begins.
As the Power Rangers battle Lord Drakkon and his forces, Zordon, Doggie Cruger, and Rita Repulsa enter Lord Drakkon’s throne room and light the Green Candle. Many Power Rangers are defeated – some of them assumed to be deceased – at the hands of Lord Drakkon, his Ranger Sentries, and Serpentera. Kimberly fires the Dragon Dagger at Lord Drakkon and seems to severely injure him – and that’s when he realizes his powers are weakening.
Lord Drakkon returns to his throne room to discover Rita Repulsa sitting in his throne. She is zapped by Finster-5 who snuffs out the Green Candle, but Lord Drakkon states it is too late and he needs to use all the morphers now. Finster-5 has hesitation, so Lord Drakkon does the only merciful thing he can think of – and breaks his neck. Lord Drakkon sneaks to the laboratory and proceeds to absorb the power of all the morphers he has acquired. As the power flows through him, reality as we knows it begins to fade to white. And then we get a to be continued in Shattered Grid Issue 01.
STAFF REVIEW
This issue would be impossible to do on television, even if Toei teamed up with Hasbro. Between tons of Megazords battling it out against Serpentera to Red Rangers all using Battlizers to just the sheer scope of everything going on – it would cost millions upon millions of dollars. And perhaps that is why it is best suited in comic form where every single panel shines. This is a true love letter from Kyle Higgins and Daniele di Nicuolo. Shame on you if you’re a fan of Power Rangers and this issue is not in your collection.
